Looking for a new winter activity? Try building an igloo! The ICEBOX® Igloo tool makes the process safer, easier and more convenient for people of all ages. It’s great for outdoor adventures- whether you’re backcountry winter camping halfway across the world, or in your own backyard. The tool is lightweight for packing and makes it easier to create a stable, long-lasting structure.

Each igloo building tool is a high quality slip form for building igloo blocks from loose snow. The slip form attaches to an aluminum pole that adjusts in length for each layer of blocks as the height of the igloo increases. Layer 2 will be a little shorter than layer one but there after the pole is extended for each layer. The pole is attached on one end to the form and on the other end is attached to a pivot stake. The pivot stake keeps the igloo construction centered on that pivot to ensure a perfect circular igloo.

The ICEBOX® igloo construction tool is used for igloo building by creating sequential blocks in place.

To use the tool, first place the stake in the center of the igloo construction area. Next, set the clamps on the ICEBOX® slip form and fill it by shoveling loose snow into the form and packing it as the form is filled. Once the form is filled, the slip form is released and moved over and the process is repeated.

A pole with 8 adjustments (1 for each layer) is used to build igloos with the correct catenary shape and to help support the weight of the snow and form while packing the snow. After finishing 6 rows of the igloo you remove the outside of the form as the wall is now leaning in far enough so the snow can be packed from the outside. The snow only needs to hold its form well enough to stay in place until you start the next block. 8 total rows are built including the final cap.
