ICEBOX^® Igloos Adventure in the Backyard or Backcountry

Overall, igloos are the warmest and sturdiest winter backpacking shelters we’ve tried.

And contrary to what many think, we were comfortable and dry thanks to the igloo that we built with a tool that I found on the internet called the ICE BOX. I wanted this tool for my Boy Scouts. Now I think this is an essential piece of camping equipment if one wants to be comfortable in the snow.

The ICE BOX is a tool that removes the science, risk, and difficulty of building snow shelters. What you end up with is an igloo with a perfect curve that takes less time and energy to build than a snow cave.

The igloos are really quiet inside, and noticeably warmer than being outside. If you want to make igloos, this is an awesome cool (no pun intended) tool.

I have owned the Grand Shelters ICEBOX igloo maker for a couple of years now. It is a really awesome and simple tool to use.

It packs up into itself. This makes it great to use for backpacking. It is the perfect size to strap to your backpack or throw in the bottom of a sled.

My favorite part about igloos over snow caves is the size. Using the igloo maker, it is about 5’6′′ tall and depending on how you want to set it up, they can be anywhere from 7′ to 11′ wide.
